Laura Reagan, LCSW-C is a Maryland Board Approved and Registered Supervisor offering clinical supervision and consultation to individuals and groups. Laura specializes in complex trauma and the effects of trauma exposure on therapists. Contact Laura to discuss supervision or consultation and sign up to receive information on the next cohort of the Trauma Therapist Community!

I've worked with survivors of trauma since 2002 and at various times I've felt alone in my thoughts and feelings about the experience of doing this work. We can't talk about what we see and hear day in and day out with the important non-professionals in our lives, like family, close friends and spouses. Even discussing our feelings about our work can be overwhelming for those loved ones, which contributes to the isolation we trauma therapists often feel.

The effects of vicarious trauma, secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue can sneak up on us and bleed into our daily lives, personally and professionally. I don't know a trauma therapist who is unaffected by trauma exposure, and I've learned to manage this in my own life through a lot of inner work. I want to help you develop ways to manage it in yours. We need you to keep sharing your light and doing your work for years to come. Join us! Curious? Keep reading!

Let go of the idea that you have to be a super hero! Consider this your permission to stop putting everyone else’s needs ahead of your own. Join me and other trauma therapists in a judgment-free zone. Learn effective coping skills to help you get your own needs met.  Together we will develop effective strategies to limit the effects of exposure to trauma so we can avoid burnout. I want you to be able to do this important work for the long-term, rather than just getting through each day. This group is about helping you live a life that’s fulfilling and complete, both personally and professionally. The goal is create a positive atmosphere that will lift you up and help you grow.

After spending time in community you can expect to  walk away feeling hopeful, supported, empowered, competent, creatively inspired, and confident. Imagine looking forward to going to work each day, feeling energized about the important work of being a trauma therapist.  Surround yourself with support. Join us in the trauma therapist community for clinical case consultation, resiliency building and personal growth. If this sounds like the opposite of how you feel now, we hope you will be inspired to gather with us, whether online or in person.

This group is for  practitioners new to working with trauma who want to learn more about this work and give and receive support to address and prevent the harmful effects of exposure to trauma. Local Groups will meet monthly in my office in Severna Park, Maryland. These groups will be small, at no more than 8 people. Online groups will meet via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. This environment will be safe and you’ll be able to speak freely. The Online and Local groups will meet separately. We will meet for 60 minutes once a month and communicate via a private Facebook group in between meetings.

  • You are looking for basic foundational knowledge of trauma techniques, case presentations and clinical consultation

  • You want support in dealing with your own emotional responses to this challenging work

Experienced Trauma Therapists

This group is for more experienced clinicians who want to share their experiences and find support. Local groups will meet monthly in my office in Severna Park, Maryland. My goal is to keep these groups small at no more than 8 people. Online groups will meet via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. In this safe environment you’ll be able to speak freely. The Online and Local groups will meet separately. We will meet for 60 minutes once a month and communicate via a private Facebook group in between meetings.

This group is a good fit for you if…

  • You want to learn techniques to identify and address the long-term effects of exposure to trauma on yourself as a clinician.

  • You are willing to come with an open mind and an open heart to give and receive support.

FAQ

Q: What's included in my membership?

A:  One meeting, 60 minutes in duration, monthly via HIPAA-compliant secure online video platform or in person at my office in Severna Park, MD as well as membership in a secret Facebook group exclusively for members to share support, ideas and connection.

Q: Will the online and in-person groups be combined into the same session?

A: No, the online and local groups will NOT be combined. They will meet separately.

Q. How much does it cost to join the Trauma Therapist Community?

A. Price for cohort 2 will be announced when registration opens in late 2016. Sign up below to receive the information when registration opens!

Q: What happens at the end of my 5-month membership?

A: I envision this community as an evolving resource. Based on feedback from the larger group it will adapt and change over the 5 months. At the end of that period We'll assess how things are going and how the process may change.  You can renew your membership at that time if you wish.

QWhat are the dates for the group meetings online?

A. Dates for cohort 2 will be announced when registration opens.  Sign up below to receive the information when registration opens!

Q: What are the dates for the in-person group meetings?

A: Dates for cohort 2 will be announced when registration opens.  Sign up below to receive the information when registration opens!

Q. Who is facilitating these groups?

A. Laura Reagan, LCSW-C, a trauma therapist in private practice and host of Therapy Chat podcast.

Q. What will be happening in group meetings?

A. Many of us feel isolated and sometimes it is tempting to use online spaces which aren't secure, such as Facebook, to discuss clinical content. These groups will be a safe space where trauma therapists can identify, address and prevent the effects of exposure to trauma through our work, including discussing clinical material as needed. I want you to do this work for the next 30 years, and do it well. Our world needs skilled trauma therapists to keep shining brightly and working from an emotionally and physically healthy place. This requires support and community, and the Trauma Therapist Community is designed to meet this need. To be more specific, this means we will have time and space for clinical case questions, support, hope and inspiration and networking. It will evolve with the needs and wants of each group's members. I will also provide you with tools and techniques to help you manage stress and challenges where it's appropriate. In one hour we will not have time for each person to present a case and discuss it. Rather, these groups will be for us to discuss what we are doing, what we aren't doing and what others are doing to help ourselves stay grounded and well while doing our work, and outside of work. If clinical material arises in these discussions, we can feel comfortable knowing we are using a HIPAA-compliant online platform, and that in-person meetings are a safe, confidential space.

Q. What if I have to miss one of the meetings?

A: It's intended that online meetings will be recorded and sent to group members, as group recording is part of the platform we'll be using. In-person meetings will not be recorded. Whether you are participating online or in person, we WILL miss you if you can't be there. Participation in the Facebook group and at group meetings will bring value for you and for the group. Regular attendance is important to create the supportive community we are aiming for. A maximum of 8 members will be accepted at any given time for each group. Members are responsible for payment for all 5 sessions of the community membership even if unable to attend each meeting. The secret Facebook group will allow for communication and support between group meetings (but not clinical information), so everyone will be included throughout the duration of membership.

QAre the online groups confidential, secure and HIPAA-compliant?

A. Yes! Online meetings will be conducted using Brother Omnijoin, which uses HIPAA compliant technology. Click HERE to read the information about the platform's level of security.

Q. What happens after I register?

A. You'll receive an e-mail after you register confirming your registration and providing you with additional information. Registration will re-open in late 2016. If you have specific questions, please e-mail me at laura@laurareaganlcswc.com.
